OMG!… it’s coming.

The day I’ve been waiting for since, basically, last year when I got my first road bike (and then started hanging out with cool Team Rev gals who told me super sweet stories about racing).

Yep, race day numero uno, it’s almost here.

Being the over-eager competitor that I am, I set my desktop countdown thingy over 100 days ago. The days couldn’t go by fast enough.

Now, again—OMG, they fall of that countdown thingy way. too. fast.

Currently it reads: 24 days ‘til race debut.

I’m pretty sure 124 days ago the weather was hanging around the 50 degree mark (what I would give to have that again!) and the let’s-train-all-the-time-on-the-bike mentality was super easy to follow.

Now, I have every excuse in the book: “I’m living in Arctic, MO” (in all honesty, it’s usually at least 10 degrees colder up here in NE MO), “I’m lacking the necessary clothing to train in said location,” “cross-training will be good/okay…it’s good cardio, right?!” “The trainer bores me, I’ll switch it up for a “few” days with some equally exciting treadmill action,” “lil’ road tires plus snow/ice equals no bueno,” “gee, if only there was a Team Rev chapter here”….etc, etc…

Though cardio might not be suffering so much, the bike is super sad to be neglected. And so are the cycling leg muscles that were becoming so joyfully accustom to being used for hours on end.

Race day is coming, regardless. Did I mention I’m super pumped!?! … even if the first race is powered more so by adrenaline than anything else it’s been far too long since I’ve felt those butterflies at the starting line, that surge of energy at the finish. It’s going to be fun. Tiring. Exhilarating. And a much needed kick in the butty to get over those darn, too easily accessible excuses.

Well, Team Rev-ers, happy training, hibernating, cross-training, excuse making, whatever it may be you’re up to on these lovely winter days. I know we will all meet on the road (or trail) in 70 degree weather before we know it!
