Mattel Big Wheel vs. Specialized S-Works Tarmac

Tags:

The right equipment is very important in cycling. We all know that.
Stated below is what I found when I compared the best of what Mattel has to offer against the best of what Specialized has to offer.
Technical Specifications
Big Wheel                                                     S-Works

Drop and Roll!

The discovery of the stop watch function opened the door for a study I had wanted to do for sometime. This study would be a test of aerodynamics that would determine just how much faster BR’s less than aerodynamic 5’10” 170lb body mounted on a zippy road bike would go down a hill tucked in the drops as opposed to sitting upright in the hoods.

Ingenuity and Determination

The fun continued until a neighbor let us know that we were all being just a bit too loud. C’est la vie. We were about to wrap up anyway. Like a good party…it’s not a good spinning session until the neighbors complain.

St. Vincent, Patron Saint of Mud

I bet $10 that none of us had heard of St. Vincent Park. I bet $100 that, after today, none of us will ever forget it. Hats off to Mike Weiss for spinning such a web of sadistic bliss.

Hats off to the Pride folks. They were as friendly as could be. If I heard “Thanks for coming” once, I heard it a dozen times. The course was a lot of fun. It wasn’t their fault that I am a ditz.

Emotional Endurance: The Hike

When I played back the emotions that I experienced during yesterday’s 15.6 mile hike down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back,  I noticed that there appeared to be a common pattern of emotions that one goes through during endurance events such as my hike, marathons, and century rides.
As we approached the trail [...]
