Lance tell us it's not about the bike. And, for once, we're inclined to agree with him. It's about the people who ride them. We are proud to call our fellow club members our teammates, teachers, students and friends. We all share a passion for spinning our wheels but have different things that make our world go round. Read about one club member, chosen at random, in a brief interview below. Check back often as we plan to update these interviews on a regular basis. Then, come out and meet us all!
KATE HRUBES
36 year old food sales rep. Married, no kids. Runner who has discovered how much more fun riding can be. Started doing centuries. Realized that folks on road bikes were moving faster and decided to trade the comfort of the couch-like seat and convenience of a kick stand for the speed of a road bike.
I have been considered slow my whole life. I was thrown out at first base from right field in softball. People had better 3-legged race times on field day than my 50 yard dash time. When I discovered I could make a bike move pretty fast, I was elated!
TR: Current bike(s)?
Kate: Cannondale Synapse (AKA "Fiery Phoenix" or "Orange Julius")
TR: Most memorable ride?
Kate: 2008 Gateway Cup race on the Hill
TR: That’s the race you were nearly 50 yards off the back of the main pack until they called the beer prime. You turned on the jets to come around them to win the prime and stay off the FRONT for a while. Is that right?
Kate (paraphrased): You put beer on the line and get the tallest girl on the heaviest bike going downhill; that’s a mix for some raw speed.
TR: Favorite group ride?
Kate: Wednesday nights with Team Rev
TR: Personal cycling goals?
Kate: Turning without braking and to complete a Saturday Hub ride without getting dropped.
TR: How did you get into cycling?
Kate: Started riding (pre-Revolution) with Teresa (fellow member) on Sundays.
TR: How did you find Team Rev?
Kate: Teresa told me about Team Rev and I came to a Wednesday night ride.
TR: Why do you ride with Team Rev?
Kate: I have a ball every single time I am with Team Rev. Great energy. Best group of friends a girl could want. Gleaming answers to life's problems on the Sunday rides is also beneficial.
TR: What's in your jersey pockets and/or saddle bag?
Kate: Sweet potatoes, bottle of Fat Tire, Ziplocs, lint, phone, and an inner tube for Lo to use if I get a flat.
TR: Music you listen to when stuck on the trainer?
Kate: no answer (she doesn’t get stuck on the trainer and can be seen riding her Orange Julius in all kinds of weather).
TR: Last cycling-related purchase?
Kate: Smartwool stocking cap. My head has never been warmer.
